In this thesis the author especially pays attention to the fact that the remodel of Tokyo on a large scale was started in 1889 when the Law of City Planning was enacted. It was the year Ogai came back home from Berlin. Ogai was actively involved in the city planning of Tokyo based on the knowledge, how Berlin had been reconstructed.
