In this paper, we analyze the relation between the new information technology, namely Groupware, Intranet, EDI, CALS, and Internet, and the global information systems in Japanese global companies based on the answers of 68 companies which filled out our questionnaire. We clarify the following points with this research. Firstly, the building and utilization of new information technology has some differences according to the types of industry and the stages of informatization. Secondly, Groupware, Intranet, EDI, and Internet are made use of by a lot of companies, but their applications are not advanced. Thirdly, CALS is made use of by few companies.
