| 内容記述 | In this paper, the writer tried to trace the footsteps of our pioneers who introduced the literature of Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) to Japanese readers by way of translation, or adaptation. Some of them were literary or academic giants, like Shoyo Tsubouchi or Yoshio Nakano. Some of them were attracted by the dramatic elements in Scott, some of them by the political principles, and some by his poetic charm. It is remarkable Ivanhoe and The Lady of the Lake have been the favourites among the Japanese readers, but the writer hopes other significant works by Scott would be translated by future translators. | |||||||||||
